Project from Hell

How nice of you to stop by! I want to start with thanking everyone for leaving such nice comments. Certainly when I try something new, like last time, they mean a lot to me. And because I received such great comments on the needle organizer I made, I thought it would be a good idea, to explore this idea a bit more and make another one.

But this time everything went wrong. It became some kind of project from hell.

Because I noticed that the little pockets I made in the blue organizer weren’t that great (everything kept falling out of them), I decided to make a larger pocket with a zipper.

010

So far so good. I managed to finish the inside.

011

Also the outside of the organizer. I used a red Tartan, and a piece of fake leather, and of course a little embroidery.

013

But then when I started to put everything together, it went wrong. First I cut into one of the pieces and had to make that part smaller than I wanted. It still could have worked out, if I hadn’t made a mistake measuring. Now the outside became too small and the insert didn’t fit anymore after closing the zipper. But I didn’t notice that until after sewing in the zipper and already a piece of the binding!

012

Because I really liked the fabrics, and this was the last piece of the flower-fabric, I took my seam ripper to see what I could save.

And then it got even worse. The tartan fabric ravelled so much, that it couldn’t be used again, I cut right into the zipper, and to finish it, I cut into the inside. When you do something, you have to do it right, don’t you?

So, this organizer is never going to be finished. I still have all the fabrics for the outside, so when I can find something to match it with, I just might make another one. But not just now!

Something which did go okay, was another pair of skirt guards. The lady asked for blues, purple, apple green and magenta.

A very happy colour combination!

  4. Oh it's horrible when projects go wrong especially if you're using precious bits of fabric. I feel you pain, I have a drawer full of failures myself. Your skirt guard on the other hand, is a triumph, so pretty. I'd put one on my bike but my panniers hide most of the back wheel so it wouldn't be seen :( Don't worry i have plenty of other yarny decorations on it!
