Today we woke up in a white world. The first snow of this season has fallen, and on the radio we hear only Christmas songs, so this certainly gives me a real ‘December’ feeling. It makes me want to drink hot chocolate and eat nice, big waffles. Maybe I’ll make them one of these days. I’ve got this wonderful recipe that belonged to my grandmother, and the challenge is always not to eat too much of the dough!
Maybe I’ve mentioned this before, but a few years ago, I received a large box with strips of fabric, from my neighbor.
This way it doesn’t look as that much, but after I put them all on the table it looks like this:
I’ve used them before to make a piano stool cover and of course for a pillow for Fleur.
Ever since the box has been standing upstairs, because the strips are so small, I often don’t know what to do with them. They are of all kinds of fabrics, thick, thin, cotton, velvet, wool, etc..
Now I had the perfect idea!
I sewed strips together to long strips, and cut them at different widths and lengths. Together with strips of the background fabric it gives me the idea of a book shelf, and that was exactly what I was looking for.
My husband is not so fond anymore, of all the books in our house. And he is right: they are taking over the house!. So he wants to have an E-reader. But that calls for a cover, doesn’t it? So that is what I made.
Next to the first book I made a little embroidery.
This panel was folded into three, and with a binding of dark brown fabric it became a soft cover:
Groetjes, Dorien
That is a really good way of using scraps and it looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a magic box to me!
ReplyDeleteYou had again the best idea! Books for book! Lovely simple pattern and practical, too! Your other works with those patches are also fantastic! x Teje
Very clever and very creative Dorien! A genius idea to use up some of those fabric strips too! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe e-reader cover is genius! I also love that cushion cover, I don't remember having seen it before.
